About From Witch City
From Witch City is a free weekly newsletter and events calendar for people who live in Salem, Massachusetts. Most of what's written about Salem is written for people visiting Salem. This is for everyone else.
What you get
- The Thursday email. One pick for the week ("If you do one thing"), then a short day-by-day rundown of what's on: live music, trivia, comedy, classes, free museum days. Twice a week in October.
- The events calendar at fromwitchcity.com/events, with this weekend and tonight pulled out on their own pages.
- Practical guides for living here: getting around without a car, October, and more in the archive.
- The Salem Dinner Club. Six locals, one table, matched by a short quiz.
Who writes it
From Witch City is written by Zach, who lives in Salem. It started in July 2026 and now goes to 400+ readers. About three in four of the readers who answered our survey live in Salem; the rest used to, visit often, or are moving here.
How the calendar is put together
Events come from public calendars (Destination Salem's citywide calendar and local venues including the House of the Seven Gables, the Hawthorne Hotel, the Salem Witch Museum and the Salem Athenaeum), from organizers who submit their events, and from tips readers send in. New events are pulled in twice a week and the site updates several times a day. Picks and write-ups are made by a person, not generated from a feed.
Independence
The "If you do one thing" pick is never paid for. Local businesses can sponsor one clearly labeled slot per email to promote a specific event; sponsors never choose or change the editorial picks.
