November is when Salem goes back to being a town. Haunted Happenings winds down with October, the tour groups thin out, and by the first weekend downtown feels like ours again. It's one of the best months to live here.

It's the month to do the things you skipped in October. The museums have room to breathe, the places with an hour wait three weeks ago have tables again, and the weeknight trivia and open mics feel like they're for us again.

A few dates to plan around. The clocks go back an hour on Sunday, November 1, so it's dark before 5. Veterans Day is Wednesday, November 11, a state holiday, so City Hall and most city offices are closed. Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, and plenty of restaurants close for the day, so call ahead if you're counting on one.
